Jane Foster held the mantle of Thor from 2014, following the events of ‘Original Sin,’ until last year when Odinson took up the mantle again in “Thor” #1. “Valkyrie” will see Jane Foster take up the mantle after witnessing the massacre of the Valkyries in this week’s issue of “War of the Realms.” In an interview with, Ewing described how Jane, in the role of Valkyrie, is “mostly on her own” because Brunhilde is only “available for consultation occasionally.” He also detailed that she is different from the other Valkyrie because she will be wielding an entirely new weapon, Undrjarn the All-Weapon, which can “change its shape and be whatever the wielder needs.” Finally, Ewing concluding by stating that while Jane knows how to be Thor, the role of a Valkyrie, (“the warrior who fights for the living and the dead, and stands between both”) “is a very different beast” and this will only be further explored as Jane is in fact the first of a new generation of Valkyrie.
